Blood from university students to Van
In cooperation with the Youth Platform and the Turkish Red Crescent, the blood donation campaign organized at universities for the victims of the earthquake in Van continues.
Ismail Hilmi Adiguzel, President of the Youth Platform, stated that it was pleasing to donate blood for the wounded in Van and said, “When many students heard that the blood donation campaign was for the earthquake victims in Van, they looked at the event from a different perspective and joined us.
Adiguzel said that they launched the project with the slogan “We add life to the blood of the Red Crescent” and that the campaign attracted great interest in universities.
Adiguzel stated that students from nearly 60 universities such as Istanbul, Dogus, Istanbul Bilgi, Kastamonu, Usak, Kocaeli, Celal Bayar and Adnan Menderes Universities participated in the campaign and expressed that there was a very warm interest.
Explaining that their mission is to support the projects and works produced by the youth, to enable them to produce and to support their education under the best conditions, Adiguzel said:
“With the awareness that human beings are the most important asset, our aim is to produce projects and educational services at international standards and to support the upbringing of a youth that previous generations look up to with envy and future generations will take as an example. This blood donation campaign is the second campaign of our platform, which also aims to be beneficial to society. It was a very useful campaign. At the same time, we continue to encourage young people to participate in such campaigns with social awareness at the forefront. We would also like to thank our professors at universities for their great support. We are very happy that university students are on the agenda with such beautiful campaigns.”
Stating that they had organized such campaigns in the past, Adiguzel said that this time the blood donation campaign coincided with the earthquake in Van.
Adiguzel said they collected 6,450 units of blood in the previous blood donation campaign in March.
Adiguzel said that the Red Crescent would use the blood they donated for the earthquake victims in Van in case of need, adding, “We hear some people say, ‘My blood must be used for the wounded in Van’. This is not the case. Blood donations will be used for the earthquake victims in Van through the Turkish Red Crescent when needed.
In cooperation with the Turkish Red Crescent and the Youth Platform, the blood donation campaign for the wounded in Van will continue until the end of this month.
