International Academic Social Entrepreneurship Workshop 2020

International Academic Social Entrepreneurship Workshop 2020 will be held online on Saturday, December 19, 2020 between 10:30 – 16:00 in cooperation with Social Business Global Association and Mersin University Young Entrepreneur Application and Research Center. T.R. Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Mr. Prof. Dr. Halis ERSOZ, Rector of Mersin University Prof. Dr. Ahmet CAMSARI, Rector of Mersin University and the Presidents of International Social Networks in Turkey will start with the “Opening Speeches” and the Academic Workshop will end with the “Workshops” on Social Entrepreneurship to be completed by the participants from 20 different countries.

On Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 10:30-16:00; planned under the chairmanship of Ismail Hilmi ADIGUZEL and Dr. Faculty Member Duygu HIDIROGLU; “International Academic Social Entrepreneurship Workshop 2020”, which has the features of being the Workshop with the “most country participation in the world” in the field of Social Entrepreneurship, being the “only international” Social Entrepreneurship Workshop held in the last 4 years in Turkey Entrepreneurship Ecosystem and being the “first Academic” Social Entrepreneurship Workshop held in Turkey, is expected to be intensive.

The International Social Entrepreneurship Workshop, which received 936 applications last year and was held in Istanbul, hosted participants from 20 different countries such as Canada, England, Indonesia, Italy, India, Egypt, Spain, Greece, China, Hong Kong, Portugal, Georgia.

Ismail Hilmi Adiguzel, one of the workshop chairs; “We care about the screening workshops because we collect social enterprises that successfully tackle the problems in other countries with a sustainable method in a single report and put them at the service of the public. We find it very important that current examples should be frequently compiled and presented in this way to inspire entrepreneurs of all ages and from all countries.”

Dr. Faculty Member Duygu Hidiroglu, one of the other workshop chairs, stated that the field of Social Entrepreneurship is a virgin field that has not yet been discovered and where scientific research is scarce in the academic community in Turkey, but; Harvard, MIT, Oxford, Yale, Cambridge, etc. in the world, thanks to the programs and departments opened in this field in the most successful universities that lead the academy, it is accepted as a major discipline and is very important. Hidiroglu stated that as Mersin University Young Entrepreneur Application and Research Center, they make all the necessary efforts to give the necessary value to Social Entrepreneurship activities. We are proud to pioneer the academic acceptance of Social Entrepreneurship with the Workshop to be organized as a result of this year’s collaboration with Social Business Global.”

Adiguzel and Hidiroglu said, “Although we would very much like to be able to organize this year’s organization physically, we decided to organize it online using technological facilities due to the pandemic conditions because we attach importance to sustainability. The Workshop, which we plan to hold on Saturday, December 19, 2020, has the distinction of being the only international workshop in the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Turkey in the last 4 years. By ensuring that at least one Turkish national student from each country group takes part in the workshop, we aim to keep the experience and teamwork intensively in our country. In the workshop, simultaneous workshops will be held with many groups at the same time regarding the identification of social problems and finding solutions; In these workshops, opinions will be exchanged in the light of existing examples on how to identify social problems and how to develop permanent solutions to these problems. It will be ensured that the participants become successful social entrepreneurs with the network and experience they will gain with the Workshop and prioritize social benefit-oriented businesses in all areas of their lives.”

With the International Academic Social Entrepreneurship Workshop, successful examples of social entrepreneurship in many countries will be researched. It is aimed to contribute to the academic literature by sharing the results of the research in the Workshop Final Report. In this way, it is aimed to inspire and guide people and institutions who want to establish social benefit-oriented businesses or who tend to transform their businesses into social benefit-oriented businesses.

At the end of the workshop, where entrepreneurs who have achieved significant success in the international arena will make speeches and share information about other international events and studies carried out in Turkey, participants will receive certificates in cooperation with Mersin University Young Entrepreneur Application and Research Center and Social Business Global Association.
